Top Reasons We are Thankful To Be in Telecom

As the year winds down, many of us pause to reflect on what we’re thankful for—family, health, growth, opportunities. But for those of us in the telecom and broadband world, there’s another source of gratitude that often goes unspoken: the privilege of working in an industry that directly shapes the future of our communities, especially across small to mid-sized markets.

We Work in an Industry That Truly Matters

Very few careers let you say, without exaggeration, “What I do changes lives.”

Broadband is no longer a luxury—it’s the backbone of education, work, healthcare, and economic mobility. Every network we deploy or improve helps close a real-life divide. We enable a student to complete homework, a small business to open its digital doors, a family to work from home, or a rural doctor to reach patients miles away.

Being part of that transformation—especially in markets where it’s needed most—is something to be thankful for.

It’s a Community-Focused Industry

Small and mid-sized providers operate differently from large national carriers. We know our customers by name. We serve neighbors, schools, local businesses, and community anchors. When service is down, it isn’t a ticket number—it’s someone’s grandmother, a teacher trying to run an online lesson, or a Main Street shop that needs to stay open.

The work feels personal because it is personal. And that creates a sense of purpose you don’t find in many industries.

Innovation Isn’t Just for Big Companies Anymore

One of the great shifts in telecom today is that advanced technologies—automation, telemetry, AI-driven operations, cloud-based provisioning—are accessible to even the smallest providers.
This levels the playing field and empowers regional ISPs to operate with the sophistication of national players.

It’s exciting to be part of an industry where innovation is no longer gated by size, but by imagination and willingness to adopt new tools.

Our Industry Is Filled With Grit, Heart, and Ingenuity

People who work in small and mid-sized broadband don’t shy away from challenges.
We build networks over mountains, under rivers, and across fields.

We integrate systems that weren’t designed to talk to each other.

We show up during storms, outages, and holidays.

We do whatever it takes to keep people connected.

This resilience—and the pride that comes with it—is worth celebrating.

We’re Part of an Era of Unprecedented Investment and Opportunity

Between public funding, private investment, and a national push toward universal connectivity, this is one of the most transformative periods in broadband history.

If you’re working in the industry right now, you’re helping shape the next generation of digital infrastructure in America. That’s rare. That’s exciting. And that’s something to be grateful for.

We Get to Work With Good People

One of the best-kept secrets in telecom is that it’s filled with truly great people—problem-solvers, innovators, community champions, and lifelong learners.

Whether you’re at a cooperative, a municipal fiber utility, a regional ISP, a technology vendor, or a consulting firm, the collaboration and camaraderie are real.

It’s an industry where competitors share advice, where partners feel like teammates, and where relationships last decades.

And at ETI, We’re Especially Grateful

At ETI, we’re deeply fortunate to serve this industry and the people who make it extraordinary. Every day, we get to support the providers who connect rural towns, expand opportunity, and tackle some of the hardest challenges in broadband. We are grateful to work alongside organizations that are mission-driven, community-focused, and relentlessly committed to doing things the right way. Helping these teams modernize operations, simplify technology, and prepare for an AI-driven future is a privilege we don’t take lightly. Supporting this industry isn’t just our business—it’s our honor.

A Final Thought

In an era when many industries feel uncertain or disconnected, working in small to mid-sized telecom offers something rare: purpose, stability, innovation, community, and the knowledge that every project contributes to a stronger, more connected future.

So this season, here’s to the builders.
The operators.
The engineers.
The customer-service teams.
The marketers and IT teams.
The leaders pushing the industry forward.

We’re lucky to be part of something that matters. And that’s why we are grateful. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
